Pocket Folders
Except for the business card, we can't think of a more basic business necessity than the Presentation Folder. From richly colored textured stocks to multicolor printed portfolios, the pocket folder is used to leave a lasting impression on the recipient. It holds sales literature, proposals, legal documents, CD's, business cards and more. There are numerous sizes available, however the most popular size is the 9” x 12”. Most standard folders contain either one or two 4” pockets which are glued to help hold the contents in place. At Frye-Williamson, we have over 20 custom die boards available to you to create a design that won't look like your folder came from the local office store. If we don't have the pocket shape you need, just ask and chances are we can have it made. Shown below are several examples of both stock pocket dies as well as custom pocket dies.
There are a few key elements to remember
when designing a folder:
- Solid coverage over the entire sheet will require a protective coating when printing on a coated sheet.
- Graphics on the pocket need to be rotated 180 degrees in the file. They look upside down on the flat sheet, but when the pocket is folded up to the inside, they will be oriented the correct way.
- To create a custom die line, such as a rounded pocket, simply draw a 1 point key line to delineate the shape. This may done as a separate Illustrator file saved as an .eps or it may be done in the folder layout file with the keyline drawn in a color NOT used in the print file.
- Hold out ink and graphics on the glue tabs, as well as varnish. The glue tab must remain free of inks and coatings so that a permanent bond occurs between the paper and the adhesive.
- If you are incorporating business card slots or a CD holder, place those key lines along with your shape file or simply indicate in a mockup where the slots are to be placed.
Use a substantial weight cover stock, such as 80 lb. or 100 lb. Uncoated Textured stocks
and 100 lb. or 120 lb. Coated Stocks. Trying to save a few dollars on lighter weight stocks will only create a folder that won't be as durable. If you need a sample created to size, please contact your representative and we can have one made in the exact stock you want.
